Claire is responsible for recruiting a team of more than 3,000 volunteers to support all aspects of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships. The aim of the volunteer programme is to recruit, train, support and inspire an inclusive and diverse volunteer workforce who will help deliver the multi-sport event taking place in August 2018.
Claire’s experience builds on various roles within Glasgow Life, the first public body in Scotland to unite the delivery of sport and culture in Scotland’s largest city. These roles also included the responsibility for recruiting, training and deploying 1,100 volunteers to support the delivery of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games as part of the award winning Host City Volunteers Project. In this role Claire coordinated a range of programmes and activities, including citywide recruitment events, an Orientation event for 900 volunteers, training sessions, procurement and distribution of uniforms and the setup of check-in hubs across the city during Games-time.
The Host City Volunteer project won the Glasgow Flourish Team Excellence Award in the category: A city that looks after its vulnerable people and the Volunteer Glasgow Alistair Malloy Inspire Awards 2015 in the category: Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion. The project was also shortlisted for the Inspiring City Legacy Award in 2014.
