Dan Withall is Estates and Sustainability Manager for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Responsible annually for the construction of the 9,000 seater stadium, which appears on the Edinburgh skyline, and is host to 240,000 customers every August. Dan has been instrumental in the company’s recent purchase and development of a major new headquarters in the centre of Edinburgh, and continues with further building and development projects in the company portfolio.
He has been the lead on sustainable events and growth for the company for 10 years, developing practical sustainable procurement advice as it grows its brand globally and seeks to influence both performers and customers in making informed sustainable choice. Through Dan’s direction and guidance the company was awarded ISO 20121 Event Sustainability accreditation in 2017, one of the first of the few in the UK.
As an independent charity the Tattoo remains a reliable source of funding for the Armed Forces benevolent funds and the arts in Scotland where it supports the Edinburgh International Festival and in 2017 created a 150k fund, administered by Creative Scotland, for developing arts seeking small grant funding.
